My printer has just quoted me a product on gsm what is gsm?
GSM is an abbreviation for grams per metre and tells you how heavy a paper or card is. There is a large range of gsm because not one size fits all. When you are thinking about getting something printed your printer will ask you what weight you want it printing on – this will determine not only the cost but also the impact that the end product will have on those that receive it. Imagine that you invest in a great design for a new leaflet to promote your products, if you have them printed on a paper that is too thin not only might it send the message that you cut corners but also the design might physically show through the paper thereby destroying the impact.
Likewise if you want to do a cost effective marketing campaign on a cheaper product that you do do you really want to spend more money on thicker card with gloss or matt laminate finishes? Ask for advice, most printers and design houses will guide you in the right direction.
